About this Funding
Applications for Smart and Skilled places is currently paused. Please contact us to add your name to the waitlist. Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:- an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
- government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

Asset College has been approved to deliver the following qualifications under NSW Smart and Skilled funding.
Qualifications are subject to availability in defined Smart and Skilled regions and may not be available if the financial cap has been or is likely to be exceeded. Please contact us to enquire.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants will need to meet all the eligibility requirements for Smart and Skilled funding.
Smart and Skilled Eligibility
- Be 15 years of age or older
- Living or working in NSW
- an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen
- No longer at school (with the exception of registered home schooled students)
- an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
- a person with a disability
- a person who is a dependent of a person on a Disability support pension
- A Fee Free Scholarship eligible student undertaking a qualification up to and including Certificate IV
- Concession eligible persons between 15 to 30 year
- A person aged between 15 to 30 years who is or was in Out of Home Care
- A person who is experiencing or has experienced domestic and family violence or their dependant.
- A refugee or asylum seeker on one of the specified visas listed in the Smart and Skilled Fee Administration Policy undertaking a qualification up to and including Certificate IV.
Application Process
- Review the course information and information and then contact us if you require any clarification regarding the course content, inclusions, outcomes, policies and procedures, entry requirements, attendance requirements or pathways.
- Submit your application online here.
- Complete an enrolment form here.
- Provide us with your Unique Student Identifier.
- Undertake the Online Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment. We will send you an invite to this assessment based on your selected qualification level.
- Your application will be assessed by Asset College’s Compliance Team and you will receive a written response usually within 3 – 5 days.
- Pay your contribution fee (if applicable).
- Sign your training plan.
- Commence your course.

Asset College Policies
All students enrolling in Smart and Skilled course will be required to supply a Unique Student Identifier and will be requested to do so on their enrolment form. More information about the Unique Student Identifier can be found here.
All students are entitled to seek recognition of prior learning (RPL) as an alternative means of establishing competency for all or part of their course. Should you wish to apply for RPL, you must do so prior to your enrolment being confirmed. Please submit a Free Skills Assessment here.
Additionally, Asset College will recognise Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs and will grant credit towards the Smart and Skilled qualifications for current and equivalent units of competency.
Students who wish to defer or discontinue a Smart and Skilled course must do so in writing to Asset College via email to [email protected] or via post to PO Box 350, North Lakes QLD 4509. The student will be provided with any statements of attainment completed and an updated training plan.
Asset College is not a VET student loan authorised provider.

Terms and Conditions
Applications are subject to approval by Asset College’s Head Office. Submitting a completed application does not guarantee approval of funding. Training cannot commence until you have received written confirmation of your application being approved.
- Availability of funding is subject to change without notice at the discretion of the New South Wales Government.
- Participants must provide additional information / feedback to Asset College within three months of completing their qualification.
- Applicants who are registered Job Seekers should consult their Workforce Australia Provider prior to submitting an application. Your Workforce Australia Provider may be able to provide additional support services.
- Additional terms and conditions will be outlined on the application forms and are subject to change.
- Participants are required to submit and pay for their own industry licence applications (where applicable). These are not included in the funding program.
- Students can only access the Smart and Skilled program through approved training providers.
